A one-minute silence was observed in memory of the 15 victims of the Chios shipwreck, marking the start of the New Democracy pre-congress dialogue in Ioannina on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Prime Minister and ND President Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the event ahead of the party’s 16th Regular Congress, scheduled for May 15–17, 2026 in Athens. Themed ‘A Social State for All – New Perspectives and Opportunities’, the Ioannina gathering brought together Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, Education Minister Sofia Zacharakis, Labor and Social Insurance Minister Nikē Kerameōs, and Social Cohesion and Family Minister Domna Michailidou, alongside MPs from Epirus, local party officials, central ND leadership, and ONNED representatives. The program featured two sessions: the first focused on ‘Education – Health – Labor – Social Cohesion’; the second included a discussion between PM Mitsotakis and four citizens—a high school student, a healthcare professional, and two beneficiaries of social welfare programs. Earlier that day, Mitsotakis visited the Epirus Innovation Center, inaugurated by Minister Zacharakis.
