Naxos: Emergency Landing of Olympic Air Flight Due to Engine Fire

A disturbance occurred at the Naxos airport when an Olympic Air flight experienced engine failure and fire during takeoff, resulting in an emergency landing. One of the engines caught fire, prompting the pilot to immediately execute an emergency landing. The plane landed safely, and all passengers disembarked without injury. Aegean Airlines issued a statement regarding the incident, noting that ‘on flight OA 017 operated by Olympic Air from Naxos to Athens with 45 passengers and 4 crew members, shortly after takeoff, an engine fire warning appeared. Following company procedures, the pilot decided to return the aircraft to Naxos Airport and informed the airport for appropriate measures. The aircraft landed safely, the pilot activated the precautionary evacuation procedure, and passenger disembarkation was completed safely. The company is sending a replacement aircraft to allow passengers to reach their destination.’
