NATO Summit: What the New Defense Production Action Plan Entails

in

On June 24, 2025, during the NATO summit, the first strategy for commercial space and the action plan for rapid adoption were approved. In February 2025, NATO defense ministers endorsed an updated action plan for defense production. The Updated Defense Production Action Plan addresses allies’ needs to produce more and faster in a rapidly evolving security environment. The plan aims to improve allies’ ability to consolidate demand, provide surge capacity, and accelerate the development of defense industrial capability and production, including through long-term orders and clear demand signals to the industry. NATO’s first Commercial Space Strategy, developed in consultation with industry, will allow the Alliance to incorporate commercial solutions with greater flexibility and speed, ensuring continuous access in times of peace, crisis, and conflict. The strategy seeks to create more business opportunities and reduce bureaucracy in NATO procurement processes by simplifying how space companies collaborate with the Alliance, boosting commercial diversity and strengthening partnerships across the Alliance.
