National Gallery: MP Nikos Papadopoulos Vandalized Artworks by Ripping Them Off the Walls

The National Gallery issued a statement detailing the vandalism of artworks by MP Nikos Papadopoulos, who stormed into the building on Monday, March 10, 2025. According to the gallery’s management, Papadopoulos violently removed and threw four artworks by Christoforos Katsadiotis onto the floor, causing significant damage. The artworks were part of an exhibition titled “The Trap of the Strange.” Following the incident, the Administrative Council of the National Gallery condemned all acts of vandalism against artistic freedom. Despite being released after his actions were classified as a misdemeanor rather than a crime, Papadopoulos remains unrepentant, criticizing what he perceives as sacrilegious art. His political party, NIKI, distanced itself from his actions, emphasizing that any opposition should occur within legal frameworks.
