A student in Rethymno was given a zero for their first exam paper due to possession of a mobile phone. During the Panhellenic exams, while writing an essay at a high school in Rethymno, the student was caught by the supervising teacher with their phone. Despite clear instructions for students to leave their phones outside the exam room, the sound of an incoming call exposed the student, as reported by cretalive.gr. The teacher overseeing the room had no choice but to nullify the student’s paper, as per established protocols. According to the Ministry of Education, having a mobile phone, even if turned off, inside the exam room is prohibited and serves as sufficient grounds for nullification. If a student arrives at the exam center with a phone, they must hand it over to the president of the High School Committee, who will secure it in a designated area. After the exam concludes, the student retrieves their phone and departs.
