In a heartfelt interview this morning (06.07.2025), journalist Natalie Kakkava recounted the shocking burglary at her home in Laggona, Athens. Speaking live on the show ‘Oi Dekatianoi,’ Kakkava described how masked intruders broke into her house while she and her family were away.

“First of all, I want to thank everyone for their support,” she said emotionally. “The break-in happened exactly at 13:16 in our downtown house in Laggona. We were out with friends in Hermioni when I received an alert from my security company. At first we thought it might be Greg’s brother who had come to feed the cats but forgot to disarm the alarm. However, he was at work. When we checked the cameras, we saw only sky, so we called our friend Nikos, who is a police officer, and he arrived by 13:37.”

Kakkava continued, “Three burglars were involved. A car initially parked outside our house, and two minutes later someone climbed the fence to scout the area. Once they confirmed the house was empty, three people exited the vehicle and entered the property wearing masks, gloves, hoods, and full-face helmets. They stayed inside for about four minutes. By 13:28, they had disabled the last camera before triggering the alarm. They smashed the railings around a small window, broke the glass, and entered.”

She added, “They went through three rooms in just 4–5 minutes and left via the ground floor by opening a window and shutters. They took all my jewelry, including pieces from my mother, and also Greg’s watch—a sentimental item from his father. The most important thing is that we are all safe and healthy. I can’t even imagine what could have happened if we had been home with the kids.”

Kakkava expressed frustration over local law enforcement’s lack of presence, stating, “Other residents told me they’ve also been victims of similar burglaries. Homes have security systems because otherwise nothing would stop these thieves. The Sarwnikos police station has 30 officers, but only half or one does patrols. Some days there is no patrol car at all—where are the other 29? I will personally request a meeting with Mr. Chrysokhoïdis. We feel abandoned to the mercy of thieves. Across Eastern Attica, there are only five patrols per day.”

Concluding the interview, Kakkava urged better staffing for Greek police forces: “We are just one of many families to suffer this shock. I’m calling for better reinforcement of the Hellenic Police so they can protect ordinary citizens—not just high-profile individuals. The situation has gotten out of control. If you check messages from residents across areas, this is happening constantly.”
