Name Day Celebrations: Who is Celebrating on March 5, 2025?

Today, Wednesday (March 5, 2025), according to the church calendar, honors Saint Archelaus and martyrs Saints Eulampius and Eulogius, as well as Saint Conon. The names celebrated today include Archelaus, Eulogius, Eulogios, Eulogia, Eulougoula, Eulogitsa, and Conon.

Saint Conon, also known as Conon of Isauria, was born at the end of the 1st century AD in Badina, a village in Isauria, Asia Minor, during the Apostolic era. His parents, Nestor and Nada, were initially pagans. At a young age, he converted to Christianity and agreed with his wife to live as siblings dedicated to God. According to the Synaxarion, the Archangel Michael guided him, baptized him, taught him about the Holy Trinity, administered the Holy Mysteries, and even bestowed upon him the gift of performing miracles.

Saint Conon led his parents to Christianity, and his father Nestor became a martyr for Christ. He also persuaded many Greeks who resisted him to acknowledge Christ and get baptized. Through divine grace, he subdued demons, some of whom protected fields under his command while others were confined in jars. However, his fellow pagan citizens opposed his missionary activities among the Gentiles. One day, after visiting a pagan temple and fervently praying to the Lord, all the idols in the temple shattered into pieces. Consequently, he was arrested by the governor Magnos and tortured. After being released, Christians cared for him with great respect. Two years later, Saint Conon passed away peacefully, surrendering his holy soul to God. During the Iconoclastic Controversy, Christians transferred his relics to Paphos, where they are preserved today in the Holy Monastery of Chrysorrogiatissa within an ornate silver reliquary.
