Today, Saturday (March 22, 2025), according to the church calendar, the feast day of Saint Drosida and the Five Virgins is celebrated. The names celebrated today include: Drosos, Drosida, Drosoula, Drosia, Drosos, Drosostalia, Drosostalida, Drosis.
Saint Drosida was the daughter of Emperor Trajan (98-117), who persecuted and executed many Christians, leaving their remains unburied. However, five virgins secretly went out at night to bury the remains of Christians in their monastery. Saint Drosida, inspired by the lives and dedication of these nuns, also helped in this sacred task. Unfortunately, a suitor of hers observed her during one such burial and reported her. When Saint Drosida and the five nuns were brought before Emperor Trajan, he ordered the immediate execution of the five nuns and placed his daughter under strict surveillance. Despite this, Saint Drosida managed to escape one night and found refuge with some Christians. There, after eight days of prayer, she passed away peacefully.
