A video capturing the moment passengers of an Olympic Air flight disembark at the ‘Odysseas Elytis’ airport in Mytilene has surfaced. Following an alarm indicating a fire on board early Tuesday morning (1.4.25), the pilot ordered an evacuation. The footage, captured by a passenger, shows evacuees leaving without luggage after the pilot’s directive due to a suspected engine fire, which later proved to be a false alarm. Firefighters from the airport’s fire department rushed to the scene and entered the aircraft as precautionary measures were taken, including the activation of the Emergency Medical Service (EKAV). According to initial reports, the fire department was alerted by the airport operations center about an incident involving an A320 aircraft with 64 people on board. Aegean Airlines issued a statement clarifying that during flight OA 250 from Athens to Mytilene, an indication of fire in one of the engines occurred after landing. Following protocols, the captain immobilized the plane, informed the airport, and initiated the evacuation procedure. All passengers disembarked safely with no signs of fire detected. A replacement aircraft was sent for the next flight to Athens, which will depart with some delay due to adverse weather conditions.
