An outpouring of grief has swept Italy following the death of 37-year-old Sara Ceccantini, who died in a car accident on the island of Mykonos late Sunday night (14 June 2026). The Italian woman was on the Cycladic island for her bachelorette party when tragedy struck.
Collision After Tire Blowout
According to Italian media reports, the crash occurred when the rented car she was traveling in with friends collided with another vehicle. The driver reportedly lost control after a tire blew out. The impact was severe.
Just minutes earlier, Ceccantini had been celebrating her upcoming wedding — scheduled for Saturday, 20 June 2026 — to her long-time partner. She sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital on Syros. Despite emergency treatment, she passed away shortly thereafter.
Injuries to Friends, One in Critical Condition
Two of her friends sustained minor injuries and remain on Mykonos to assist authorities with their investigation. A third friend was transferred to a hospital in Athens and is currently in intensive care in serious condition.
Ceccantini leaves behind a three-year-old child, her fiancé — who was set to marry her this Saturday — and a wide circle of grieving family and colleagues. Her mother and sister have already traveled to Mykonos, while her partner remains in Italy with their young son.
Prada Factory Closes in Mourning
Ceccantini worked at the Prada factory in Valvigna, Terranuova Bracciolini. In tribute, the facility closed temporarily following the tragedy — a decision made by Patrizio Bertelli, Prada’s co-owner and native of Arezzo, the same Tuscan region where Ceccantini was from.
Italian authorities are awaiting the results of the forensic autopsy to determine the exact cause of death before initiating repatriation procedures for her remains.
