The 2,500 have arrived from citizens for violations of the sea and beaches throughout the country in the last week -12,500 in total since the beginning of the summer – to which the Land Services of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance have advanced to date (17.8.2024). A total of more than 1,600 companies were controlled during this year, of which 450 in the last week. The checks are carried out in cooperation with the Greek Police and local municipalities, while the complaints examined came primarily through the MyCoast application, but also through telephone calls from the citizens to local Real Estate Services. The overall picture of the massive controls in recent weeks is clearly more improved than in previous years, as the majority of the businesses operating on the beaches have complied with the new rules and the new legal framework. However, several infringements emerged from the checks, including absence of posting signs until excesses of the reserved space from additional umbrella seats, other constructions as well as cases where occupation without a concession contract was arbitrary. In all the undertakings that proved to be infringements, all planned administrative fines were launched, while in cases where there was no contract a total of 36 sealings of illegally occupied beach sections have been carried out, of which 14 last week in Corfu (2), Messinia (2), Ilia (3), Kefalonia (7). It is noted that the seven regions of the country that have gathered most of the complaints since the beginning of the summer and have been first checked are as follows: Halkidiki: 1,930 complaints were examined. Autopsies have been performed on 24 beaches where some 1,500 complaints have been made. Eastern Attica: 1,579 complaints of which 183 were examined in the last 5 days. Autopsies have been performed on 22 beaches, namely 80% of the beaches where complaints have been made. Preveza: 1,355 complaints were examined. Auditors’ scales went to checks on 8 beaches, where more than 600 complaints have been made. Dodecanese: 799 complaints were examined. The checkers’ ranks went to checks on 16 beaches, where over 330 complaints have been made. A joint control group has been set up in Rhodes between Real Estate Service, Municipality and other services and there is coordination and close cooperation on controls. Cyclades: The Cyclades are gathering a relatively low number of complaints this year. So far 552 complaints have been checked and autopsies have been performed in Mykonos and Paros. It is located in Thira and cooperates for checks and autopsies with the Municipality and there is also cooperation with the Municipality for autopsies in Naxos, Tinos and Andros. Corfu: 372 complaints were examined. Autopsies were carried out on 4 beaches where 77 complaints were made. Chania: 264 complaints were examined in total, which were made on a total of 7 beaches, where autopsies have already been carried out.
