The Heraklion Judicial Council has ordered the pre-trial detention of a 57-year-old farmer accused of being the moral perpetrator in the murder of Alexandros Daskalakis, president of the Apesokari community in Crete.
Until today (23 June 2026), the suspect had been under house arrest pending the council’s decision on his criminal disposition. The council was called upon to rule after a disagreement emerged between the investigating magistrate and the public prosecutor, according to cretalive.gr.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s 32-year-old son and a 59-year-old shepherd/employee—both charged as physical perpetrators—have already been remanded in custody. All three were arrested on 10 June following a large-scale police operation in the Messara region, carried out after a months-long investigation into the death of 49-year-old Alexandros Daskalakis.
According to investigative findings—including witness testimonies, video evidence, and the forensic autopsy report, which reportedly ruled out the possibility of an accident—the authorities concluded there was sufficient evidence to proceed with the arrests.
