The 41-year-old suspect and his wife appeared before the public prosecutor and face criminal charges — he for intentional homicide resulting in death, and she for complicity in murder. A three-hour crime scene reconstruction took place at the couple’s home in Ano Syros, attended by police officers and both defendants, who separately recounted the events leading to the woman’s death.
The Suspect’s Account
According to reports by Mega TV, the 41-year-old claimed he had returned home unusually early — contrary to his usual late working hours — and was seated at the dining table eating when someone rang the doorbell. His wife opened the door and reportedly saw an individual attacking her. He immediately stood up, grabbed the knife he’d been using to eat, and stabbed the 42-year-old woman in the back.
He allegedly said he did not realize the person was a woman and believed it was a man — possibly an intruder. Both he and his wife reportedly shouted that a burglar had broken into their home. From the outset, the couple insists they acted in self-defence.
Wife’s Prior Concerns
People close to the couple told investigators that the suspect’s 30-year-old wife had noticed suspicious activity earlier that day — including what she described as a white vehicle appearing to follow her. Authorities are examining this claim.
Victim’s Background
The victim, a dedicated EKAB paramedic and mother of two children, had divorced her former husband after 22 years of marriage but maintained an exceptionally close relationship with him and their children. Speaking to Mega TV, her ex-husband spoke emotionally about her loss: “She was my life — we were together for 22 years. She raised me, and we grew up together. We had two children. I’m incredibly proud of that. Now I must be both mother and father to them. So far, the children only know she’s seriously ill and in hospital — authorities won’t allow us to see her. I don’t know how I’ll cope. It would have been better if I’d gone instead.”
He added that their children had spent time together with the suspect’s children: “They played together, went swimming together, stayed overnight at their cousin’s house — there was no animosity or tension between our families.”
