It has been one year since the tragic murder of Kyriaki Griva outside the police station in Agios Anargyros (1/4/25). Relatives, friends, organizations combating gender-based violence, and other supporters gathered at the same police station for the unveiling ceremony of Kyriaki’s memorial. The emotional moment was marked by her bereaved mother as she unveiled the monument. The memorial reads, “Kyriaki Griva, murdered,” followed by a poignant message directly addressing the event and the perpetrator: “They call me Kyriaki Griva, and my ex-partner Thanasis Kourakis killed me at the Agios Anargyros Police Station on April 1, 2024, at 22:20. I was only 28 years old…” Kyriaki’s father, Thanasis Grivas, was among the first to speak. He urged women to stand up against abuse, saying, “No fake macho should ever lay a hand on you.” In her speech, Kyriaki’s mother highlighted how her daughter sought help where she should have but was denied assistance.
