The family of the 22-year-old driver responsible for a fatal car accident in Peristeri is in shock. The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning (March 16, 2025), claimed the life of a taxi driver. The young woman faces severe charges, including up to 10 years in prison, while her current health condition has led to house arrest with an ankle monitor. This decision has sparked reactions, as other cases involved preventive detention, typically reserved for reckless drivers. Legal experts note that those cases often involved underage drivers. Speaking to Live News, the mother of the accused expressed deep sorrow and apologized to the victim’s family. “My daughter is physically and psychologically in very bad shape,” she said. “We are devastated and deeply sorry for the family who lost their loved one. We are all shattered. A thousand apologies are not enough for this tragedy. Much of what is written is untrue, especially regarding traffic signals. We are in a great Golgotha and will remain so for some time. Our deepest condolences go out to the family, with whom we are in contact and will personally support.” Attorney Dimitris Mimigianis, representing the victim’s family, described the scene as catastrophic. “It was like a bomb fell on the taxi. The car was completely crushed. The girl had consumed a lot of alcohol and was driving at high speed. The law has changed; these are malicious acts punishable by imprisonment for at least ten years. If you kill someone and are at fault, you will go to jail.”
