Following a barrage of attacks launched last night (05.06.2025) by Ukraine against Russian military airbases, which caused material damage and fires in oil depots, it seems that Kyiv aimed to strike Moscow as well. Specifically, forces of the Russian anti-aircraft defense identified three Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow. However, as emphasized by the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergey Sobyanin, the Russian air defense successfully shot down all three unmanned aircraft. The mayor did not provide further clarifications about the incident, only stating that emergency services are working at the sites where the debris fell. Earlier, the civil aviation authority reported that Moscow’s Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports temporarily ceased operations for flight safety. Now, the airports are functioning normally. It is noted that the Ukrainian army announced it carried out a successful drone attack late Thursday night (05.06.2025) against two airbases in Russia, including the critical Engels base. The Ukrainian general staff announced that they targeted the Saratov region, as well as the Russian airbase of Dyagilevo in the Ryazan region. The military airbase at Engels houses enemy aircraft ‘left over from the operation.’ The Dyagilevo airport serves as a base for Russian refueling aircraft, fighter jets, and strategic bombers, according to the Ukrainian army.
