With characteristic irony and humor, songwriter and commentator Nikos Moraitis poked fun at Stefanos Kasselakis’s recent remarks about the Democratic Party’s move toward a so-called “Liberal Centre.” Moraitis targeted the party’s evolving political identity—particularly its rebranding efforts—by highlighting an apparent contradiction in Kasselakis’s statements.
A Shift — or Just Semantics?
In a social media post, Moraitis quoted two successive comments by Kasselakis: first, at 5:00 p.m., that the Democrats were entering “a new phase—the Liberal Centre,” and then, at 7:00 p.m.—after public reaction had intensified—that “the Progressive Centre is ipso facto liberal.”
Moraitis responded with sarcasm, writing “I’m crying…”, followed by tongue-in-cheek lines such as “Paint us all blue!” and “I’ll dress up liberal too!”—a playful jab at both the party’s shifting labels and its perceived ideological ambiguity.
His full post read: “I’m crying… At 5:00 p.m.: ‘The Democrats are entering a new phase—the Liberal Centre.’ At 7:00 p.m. (after noticing the uproar): ‘I don’t quite understand what shift they mean, since the Progressive Centre is ipso facto liberal.’ Don’t panic, kids! It doesn’t matter, leader! Paint us all blue! … I’ll dress up liberal too—for your sake, fellah, for your sake, fellah—ah, I’ll dress up liberal!”
The post quickly drew attention online, underscoring ongoing debates about political positioning and messaging within Greece’s centre-left landscape.
