11 September 2016, following the request of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, in order to provide first aid on the island of Thassos, which was declared in a state of emergency due to the catastrophic fire.
Because of the large area of the fiery forehead, threatening local communities, Rachoni, Prinos, Maries, was given a mandate by the President of the Greek Red Cross Dr. Antonios Avgerinos on the Bodies of Volunteers Samaritans Rescuers of the Regional Sections, E.E.P. Xanthi and Komotini to provide and those their assistance.
On the island, visited the prime minister, who visited the affected areas and was briefed by the local bodies and the competent authorities for the situation on the island. Mr Tsipras thanked and congratulated the Volunteer Rescuers of the Hellenic Red Cross for their invaluable help in these difficult.
