Improving daily life—by boosting disposable income, increasing employment, and enhancing public services for citizens—along with strengthening national defense, are the government’s priorities as it moves into its second two-year term. In an effort to regain lost ground in public opinion polls, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has instructed ministers to accelerate planned reforms in these areas. Today (02.04.2025), at the Parliament, through his initiative, Mitsotakis will inform members about the planning of defense equipment and the country’s defense policy. The main message focuses on transitioning Armed Forces and Defense into a new era. The prime minister is expected to outline the framework of the country’s defense doctrine for the next 12 years and beyond. In the coming days, during a closed session of the relevant Parliamentary Committee, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias will provide detailed information. The new equipment program emphasizes large procurements, technology integration, and cooperation with Greek industry. All procurements must include at least 25% local content or participation. This strategy will be accompanied by comprehensive measures, from reorganizing military terms to economically supporting Armed Forces personnel. Mitsotakis will stress the importance of defense and political stability in today’s geopolitical environment and its value for economic growth. Additionally, he will address internal party concerns regarding salary increases for Armed Forces personnel versus Security Corps members, emphasizing that military pay raises are a ‘national priority’ aimed at attracting new recruits. Future announcements for supporting the middle class are also planned.
