Mitsotakis: Universities Belong to Students and Professors, Not Criminal Minorities

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis delivered a clear message today (18.05.25) in his regular Facebook post, addressing current political issues and government interventions. He praised the Greek Police for identifying and arresting the perpetrators of the violent attack at the Law School and for clearing the school’s premises which had been occupied by a self-managed group. The Prime Minister also commended the Rector for their immediate response, noting that just days later, the school no longer resembles its appearance during the occupation. Mitsotakis emphasized an ongoing battle against lawlessness in universities, stating that although there is still much work to be done, the example set by the Law School demonstrates that when there is cooperation between academic authorities and the state, change can happen with persistence, planning, and hard work. He acknowledged the need for stricter measures to combat serious criminality infiltrating certain academic institutions and affirmed that this would occur through collaboration with academic authorities. ‘Universities belong to students and professors, not to minorities who think they can mask their criminal actions with ideologies from past decades,’ he remarked. Finally, he stressed that this situation cannot and will not be tolerated by anyone.
