Mitsotakis: The Greek State will undertake the full restoration of the apartment building in Ampelokipou

The state aid framework for supporting owners and tenants living on Arcadia Street in Ampelokipi, which was seriously damaged by the bomb explosion, announced the Prime Minister at a meeting he had with them today, Friday (22.11. 24) at Maximus Palace. Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that the Greek State will undertake the full restoration of the apartment building – in which there are 44 properties, including 9 professional spaces – having secured a private donation from GEK TERNA. At the same time, the tenants will be compensated for their household that was destroyed. For the 9 to 12 months estimated to last, the owners will be able to choose between the provision of housing allowance for rent and relocation to the camps of the Ministry of National Defence in Agios Andreas. The tenants, as they seek a new roof, will be able to stay in St Andrew’s residences until the end of March 2025. Also, for those of the owners and tenants who wish to, it is considered to extend their stay at the hotel where they are currently housed at state expense, until they find a house for rent. The costs of transferring the household of the owners to a place indicated by them will be covered by the state, while there will also be a facility for tenants. Special attention is expected to be paid to those who have suffered damage to the professional activity related to the building. ‘The preparation of the new aid framework was initiated immediately after the building was deemed to be wholly unfit for habitation on the basis of a second static assessment requested by the government from the TTE in order to ensure the protection of the inhabitants of the area’, as stated in the information. The Ministry of Family and Social Cohesion has designated a contact link with residents for any problems that arise, while in constant communication the General Secretariat of Civil Protection is with them. The detailed presentation of the state aid framework was made to the affected by the Minister of State Akis Skertsos.
