Greek Prime Minister and New Democracy party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Nea Smyrni on Friday, 26 June 2026. His first stop was Milon Camp — a summer programme run by the historic Nea Smyrni sports club O Milon, offering daily athletic and creative activities for children.

Mitsotakis walked through the sports fields, spoke with children about their favourite sports and football teams supporting them during the FIFA World Cup, and encouraged them to stay active with friends. He also advised them to limit screen time on mobile devices.

He then visited a café hosting activities of the local backgammon enthusiasts’ cultural group, where he chatted with members and played a round of backgammon.

The visit concluded with a stroll along Nea Smyrni’s commercial streets, where Mitsotakis spoke with shop owners and residents. Along the way, he engaged in spontaneous conversations and took photos with dozens of passers-by. Later, he stopped at a central café on Omirou Street.

Several locals wished him strength ahead of what could be a long election campaign. In response, Mitsotakis urged citizens to stay energised and prepared — and wished them a pleasant summer. ‘Are you enjoying yourselves? All good? Ready for summer?’ he asked a group seated at the café. When they jokingly asked if he himself was ready for summer, he replied: ‘We don’t have summer — we just keep running. […] Recharge your batteries this summer. […] I see all of you ready and fully mobilised — that’s exactly what we need.’
