With reference to Spain “tested” by the unprecedented, lethal floods, he began his introductory position on the Cabinet on Thursday morning (31.10. 24) the Prime Minister, with him at the heart of the meeting. Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his support in Spain, recalling the importance of Civil Protection and 112 in such cases. “No one is immune to the climate crisis,” he noted. The Prime Minister then presented the new system for calculating the minimum wage from 2027. As he said, the government will respect its commitment to reach 950 euros in 2027. “The wages will be reduced only by increasing,” he stressed, referring to a permanent system of increase from 2027. He noted that “it will be prohibited by law to reduce the minimum wage, while its increase will be determined by the rate of growth, but also by inflation affecting lower incomes.” “The better the economy goes, the higher the salary,” he said. He stressed, in fact, that the new system would also favour civil servants, joining up three years and allowances. “The better the economy goes, the higher the minimum wage and the higher prices, the more they compensate for this price increase. The minimum wage is 830 euros and we will keep our commitment to reach 950 euros. The new system also favours civil servants, with the import salary in line with the basic remuneration in the country. It will support the three years, but also all benefits linked to the minimum wage. It is an important reform concerning all workers,” Mr Mitsotakis noted. The prime minister recalled that in 2025 insurance contributions would have declined to 6% levels, aiming at 2027 to reach European levels. “All this is achieved at a time when deficits in European countries are increasing. In the United Kingdom, just yesterday the new budget was announced, with additional tax burdens of £40 billion. In Greece, the path is reversed: fiscally balanced policies and tax justice that by wish becomes reality. All subsequent additional tax revenue opens the way for a tax reduction. The lesser arbitrariness of the few means greater relief of the many,” he said. Mitsotakis referred to the “tax declarations, which will now be made firmly by putting a definitive end to the series of extensions and increasing discounts to those paying one-off”.
