A nurse from the Janio Hospital is still on the run after administering the wrong blood type to a 62-year-old woman, causing her multiple cerebral complications. As of today, three days later (June 6, 2025), the nurse remains missing despite police efforts following a complaint filed by the patient’s family. The patient, who was being treated for a stroke at Janio Hospital, suffered severe complications due to the incorrect blood transfusion and is now critically but stable in intensive care. Legal charges have been filed against the nurse for causing bodily harm. Reports indicate that the error occurred when the nurse confused two patients in the room where the transfusion took place. In response to the incident, hospital administration has ordered an Official Administrative Investigation (OAE) into the matter. An official statement from the hospital reads: ‘This morning, the wrong unit of blood intended for another patient was mistakenly administered to patient K.H., ID No. 1241111, by one of our clinical nurses. Following immediate medical attention, it was confirmed that the patient had received the wrong blood type, leading to severe symptoms necessitating her intubation and transfer to ICU. Upon learning of the situation, the hospital management immediately ordered an OAE investigation due to the seriousness of the event. Furthermore, the hospital’s legal department, acting on behalf of the administration, has filed an official report with the Piraeus Prosecution Office to investigate any potential criminal liabilities.’
