In response to a recent inquiry by independent MP Nikos Papadopoulos regarding the alleged systematic neglect of Greece’s historical monuments, Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni emphasized that her ministry is committed to restoring all monuments, irrespective of their era. ‘The Ministry of Culture restores all monuments regardless of periods, strictly adhering to legal frameworks,’ Mendoni stated. She highlighted that the ministry is currently executing its largest cultural infrastructure project with over 850 ongoing projects and a budget exceeding €1.3 billion. Mendoni underscored that both Christian churches and Ottoman-era buildings are considered part of Greece’s heritage, built by Greek artisans. Addressing specific accusations, such as unauthorized drone usage near archaeological sites, Mendoni clarified that appropriate legal actions were taken in every case. Furthermore, she criticized the opposition for politicizing cultural heritage issues while failing to acknowledge the extensive restoration work being carried out under her leadership.
