Iran Won't Surrender, Says Ghalibaf

Middle East: ‘The war won’t end with Iran’s surrender,’ says Ghalibaf

Tensions between the United States and Iran remain at exceptionally high levels, as both sides exchange sharp public statements while diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the crisis continue. The regional climate across the Middle East remains highly fragile, with the international community closely monitoring developments.

Renewed Hostilities in the Gulf

U.S.-Iran relations are once again under severe strain. Military tensions and mutual accusations have revived fears of further escalation—particularly after former U.S. President Donald Trump posted a new statement earlier this week declaring, among other things, that ‘the ceasefire is over.’

Meanwhile, countries including Egypt and Qatar have urged both Washington and Tehran to return to negotiations, hoping for a diplomatic resolution.

Ghalibaf: No Surrender, Full Readiness to Defend

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator in talks with the U.S., made it clear that the conflict will not end through Iran’s capitulation. Speaking amid renewed hostilities in the Gulf this week, he emphasized Tehran’s readiness to defend its national interests.

‘Ending the war is a priority for many countries around the world,’ Ghalibaf said, ‘but everyone must understand that this confrontation will never end with Iran’s surrender.’

The remarks follow a surge in clashes: the U.S. accused Iran of attacking three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and responded with military strikes against Iranian targets. In turn, Tehran launched attacks against U.S. allies in the region—including Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Qatar. At least one injury was reported in Kuwait; Qatar, meanwhile, is among the nations actively mediating to ease tensions.

Ghalibaf added that ‘each time the Americans violate the agreement, we are fully prepared to defend ourselves, stand firm against them, and safeguard the rights of the Iranian people’—and stressed that Iran does not trust the United States.

Fractured Ceasefire Agreement

Iran and the U.S. had signed a protocol agreement on June 17 aimed at ending hostilities that erupted on February 28. Since then, however, both sides have accused each other of breaching the deal—a breakdown that has fueled renewed escalation.

In this volatile context, Egypt and Qatar have jointly called on Tehran and Washington to resume negotiations, expressing hope that dialogue can help de-escalate tensions and prevent further military confrontation.
