There have been occasional rumors about Michelle Obama’s potential involvement in politics, following in her husband’s footsteps. However, she has put an end to these speculations. During an interview on Kaili Celis’s podcast “Not Gonna Lie,” Michelle Obama clarified why she will not return to the political stage in the U.S., despite her high popularity. The former First Lady emphasized that this decision is primarily due to her desire to protect her family from the spotlight and pressure that comes with political life. “I was so happy when we left the White House,” she said, referring to the end of her husband Barack Obama’s second term in 2017. “I wanted them to have the freedom to live as they wish, without all eyes of the world on them,” she explained regarding her daughters, 26-year-old Malia and 23-year-old Sasha, and continued: “That’s why when people ask me if I would ever run for office, the answer is ‘no.’ If you wonder about it, then you don’t understand the sacrifice children make when their parents are in such a position.” Additionally, bringing her daughters back into the spotlight while they are trying to start their own journeys and establish themselves is something she does not desire. “They still face paparazzi pressure. But they try to be themselves and carve their own path,” Obama noted. “It’s never going to happen. My daughters have already served their ‘sentence.’ It’s unimaginable. No,” she concluded.
