Michalis Chrysochoidis, Greece’s Minister for Citizen Protection, appeared on SKAI 100.3 radio on Monday morning (13 July 2026) to address developments in the Marfin case and the recent fatal police shooting of a 20-year-old during a pursuit in Argos.
‘Myths and Scenarios’
Chrysochoidis dismissed widespread speculation about the Marfin investigation as “myths”, stressing that progress in the case stems solely from the work of law enforcement—not from external interventions such as emails. “I’m baffled by all these myths and scenarios being constructed,” he said, drawing a parallel with the dismantling of the far-left militant group 17 November and underscoring that justice must be delivered strictly within the framework of the rule of law.
“Instead of focusing on what is actually happening now—and how we will deliver justice—we’ve reverted to speculative narratives,” he added. “All the rest is storytelling, and I don’t respond to stories.”
Argos Shooting: A Failure of Protocol
Regarding the incident in Argos, Chrysochoidis stated unequivocally that police officers acted improperly. He confirmed the case will now be adjudicated by the criminal justice system.
“The police’s mission is to arrest murderers—not to kill children,” he said. “In this case, officers failed. They overstepped, and a human life was lost.”
He emphasized that the action taken was not only unjustified but will now face legal scrutiny: “This was an act that should never have occurred—and, unfortunately, it will be judged by criminal courts. The role of the police is to locate and apprehend suspects—not to take young lives.”
