MH370: Search Suspended Again for Malaysia Airlines ‘Ghost Plane’

Eleven years have passed since the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 into the southern Indian Ocean. According to a statement on April 3, 2025, by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the search has been paused due to adverse weather conditions and will resume at year’s end. The Boeing 777 was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members when it vanished en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in 2014, marking one of the biggest mysteries in global aviation history. According to state news agency Bernama, the minister did not clarify why the delay is necessary. With winter approaching in the southern hemisphere, harsh weather conditions are expected for several months. Ocean Infinity, the company leading the search operation, has not immediately responded to a request for comment. “I think this is not the right time. I believe Ocean Infinity has halted operations temporarily and will resume later this year,” said Transport Minister Loke per Bernama. Last month, Malaysia reached an agreement with Ocean Infinity to restart the search in a new location, covering an estimated 15,000 square kilometers in the southern Indian Ocean. Kelvin Sim, whose wife was on the ill-fated flight, commented that he wasn’t surprised by the delay due to changing weather patterns in the southern hemisphere. “We’ve waited over 11 years, so a few more months aren’t too much… I can wait,” said the 50-year-old.
