The mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 — which vanished in March 2014 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing — remains unsolved. Malaysia has extended its agreement with U.S.-based deep-sea exploration company Ocean Infinity by one year to continue underwater searches in the southern Indian Ocean.
The Boeing 777 carried 227 passengers and 12 crew members when it disappeared, marking one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in commercial aviation history.
Past search efforts across the southern Indian Ocean have yielded no trace of the aircraft. Ocean Infinity previously conducted searches until 2018. Last year, it signed a new agreement with Malaysia to resume operations over a 15,000-square-kilometre area — with payment of US$70 million contingent solely upon locating the aircraft’s wreckage.
The renewed agreement runs for 12 months, from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, according to Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke. In an official statement, he said: “This decision reflects the government’s enduring and unwavering commitment to delivering closure for the families of those aboard MH370.”
