‘It became dangerous when you didn’t give him what he wanted,’ a close relative of the 61-year-old man arrested for the double murder of his parents on Sunday afternoon (June 22, 2025) in Sperchaea told newsit.gr. According to reports, after the horrifying double homicide, neighbors who heard voices alerted authorities, leading to the swift arrest of the 61-year-old by the police. ‘He had severe psychological problems, never worked in his life. His parents had four children; they were very good people, quiet, and never bothered anyone. They complained about their son being aggressive and not taking his medication regularly, which caused his condition to escalate sometimes. He became dangerous because whenever you said no to something, he would threaten your life, saying “I’ll kill you,” and always carried a knife with him. When he took his meds, he was okay and under control. Sometimes, even while on medication, he drank alcohol,’ another family member who lived with him daily explained to newsit.gr. The entire local community was aware of the 61-year-old’s condition, as he had previously caused disturbances with his neighbors. The parents, according to the relative, made repeated efforts to admit their son into institutions, but his stays were always temporary. ‘Financially supported by his parents, he also received a disability pension. He hadn’t attempted to harm them again beyond some occasional arguments and verbal abuse towards his mother. We were all shocked by what happened. The parents tried hard to get him institutionalized, but the facilities released him shortly after admitting him. The parents were worried about what would become of this child and how it would end,’ emphasized a family member.
