A double message to PASOK was sent by its president, during his meeting with the mayor of Athens, Harry Duke, both on the issue of the President of the Republic and on the big issue of cooperation. More specifically, the president of Syriza, Socrates Famellus, in statements by him referring to the issue of partnerships stressed that “the progressive cooperation was able to stop and overthrow the right-wing policy” and added: “So we are particularly interested in the project in the Municipality”. Athens, we will watch it, we will be next door, we will support it so that we will have better results.” CORVERSE Socrates Famellus wanted on the occasion of his proposal to appoint a candidate president from the progressive area to remind Harilaou Trikoupis that when there was previously cooperation between the two parties the results were particularly satisfactory. At the same time, he wanted to communicate that SYRIZA is not doing business with the parties and that instead he supports the executives of the other parties with which he works. In this context he took a place in the dispute between Harry Duke and the Regional Governor of Attica, George Chardalia, on the issue of waste management in Attica and the recent issue that has arisen with the burial tax. “Attica, its citizens, the municipalities and the environment pay today at the cost of dozens – not to mention hundreds – millions, the inadequacy and criminal errors of Mr. Mitsotakis and his government,” said SYRIZA President. In Koumoundourou, however, the debate continues on the proposal to be submitted by Syriza for the person of the President of the Republic, although different views are recorded on the time when the candidate’s name should be announced, but also on the characteristics that a left candidate should have. CORVERSE The spokesperson, George Karameros, said yesterday that “SYRIZA-PS proposes a joint nomination of the progressive space. Not just a nomination from the progressive space, but a joint nomination from the progressive space. Our proposal is public. Our proposal is addressed to PASOK and the New Left in principle. ” This report has alarmed some as it was considered a withdrawal from the position of the SYRIZA conference. According to the decision SYRIZA executives had agreed that “we want the president of the Republic from the Left or the wider progressive party and that there are no impassions in democracy.” The wording of the Karamerou statement was considered by many to leave open the possibility that the person proposed by Syriza would not belong to the Left. It is also characteristic that while the spokesman for SYRIZA said that the Famelou proposal is also addressed to Harilaou Trikoupi’s party, Nikos Pappas said PAOK are “rightful” by pointing out that the main opposition party under the leadership of Nikos Androulakis is on a convocation course with the ND.
