Mendilibar: The Real Threat for Olympiacos Isn’t the Weather or Artificial Grass, But Beşiktaş

In a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League ‘battle’ against Beşiktaş (22:00, Newsit.gr, Ant1, and Cosmote Sport 3 HD), José Luis Mendilibar emphasized that he has no intention of altering Olympiacos’s strategy despite the challenging conditions. Despite the icy weather and artificial turf, Mendilibar stated that the real danger lies in Beşiktaş’s strength. He addressed concerns about the unusual circumstances, saying both teams will face the same conditions. When asked if he plans to adjust tactics due to these factors, he replied, ‘What should I change? Things are as they are.’ Mendilibar highlighted the differences between the two teams, noting their shared desire to dominate the game. He also downplayed the significance of Beşiktaş’s lack of league matches, stating it may not be advantageous for them. Regarding whether a draw would be a good result in view of the return leg, Mendilibar insisted his focus is solely on winning tomorrow’s match. ‘We haven’t talked much about the opponent,’ he added. ‘We have 11 very good players in front of us, and that’s what matters most.’ Finally, he praised Beşiktaş as an extremely strong team with a proven track record both home and away.
