Mendilibar on Almeyda’s Plan: ‘When a Team Changes Its Style Suddenly, It Harms Itself’

José Luis Mendilibar made it clear that the championship battle is not over yet after Olympiacos’ victory against AEK. The team left unscathed again from the OPAP Arena for their 25th competitive match in the Super League. Speaking after the game, José Luis Mendilibar was asked about the change in plans by Almeyda and emphasized that it did not trouble him but rather surprised him. Mendilibar stated that today’s match was better than the previous two. They were superior in the first half, while the second half was a different game. The only shot on target was by Chicinho, making the game seem more like a draw. Regarding whether they are closer to the title, he mentioned it was an important win they wanted and tried for. Nothing is finished yet; there is still one more match to secure before heading into the playoffs. PAOK and Panathinaikos remain behind, but six matches and the playoffs are still ahead. On Almeyda’s plan shift, Mendilibar said it didn’t challenge him but surprised him. He believes when a team changes its style suddenly, it does more harm than good to itself.
