Christmas eve, Saturday 24 December at 8.30 in the morning, the holy church of the Holy Angels A of the Municipal Cemetery of Patras, we will be holding a memorial service for the completion of forty days, Kostis Stephanopoulos, who passed away late in the evening of 20 November 2016.
The funeral service was chanted in the holy temple of Agios Dimitrios, Paleo Psychiko, Athens, with prices the Head of state and by dropping in tribute, in memory of, twenty-one fire.
Costis Dimitriou Stephanopoulos was born in Patras on 15 August 1926 and in his life, he excelled first as a lawyer. There was a charismatic lawyer with a great skill in rhetoric, dynamic, noble, that the arguments of the court rooms up to about ’74, who brought the law, impress the audience, his fellow lawyers and judges.
Kostis Stephanopoulos first became member of parliament for Achaia with the EPE in 1964 and from then on was constantly with the New Republic: in 1974, 1977, 1981, 1985 until August 1985, which has withdrawn from the N.D. and founded the Democratic Renewal in September 1985.
He was elected member A of Athens in June of 1989 with the PUBLIC.ANA., however, it was after the failure in the european elections, to decide, with regret, to dissolve the party in 1994. The period of N.D. Kostis Stephanopoulos was one of the main, first-class political executives who happened to the strong confidence of the late Constantine Karamanlis. He had served on the government of Constantine Karamanlis as Minister of the Interior in November 1974, Social Services in September 1976 as well as the Presidency from the period from November 1977 to October 1980.
On March 10, 1995, having been preceded by a proposal by the province of Messinia Policy Spring then, Antonis Samaras, Kostis Stefanopoulos was the person who was sworn in President of the Hellenic Republic to the House, taking 181 votes, succeeding the outgoing President Konstantinos Karamanlis. Five years later, in March of 2000 was really a very moving moment for Kostis Stephanopoulos, as well as with διαπαραταξιακή almost unanimous, something that had never happened before in the annals, was re-elected for a second term at the highest state post in our country. There was the way it was written, a President of the Republic, prudent, beloved by the world that traveled all over Greece but also in almost every corner of the planet where live Greeks. He became the President of all the Greeks leaving a valuable legacy.
The burial, after leading prayer in the holy church of the Holy Angels, took place in A Municipal cemetery of Patras in the afternoon of Wednesday 23 November.
