Today, June 3, 2025, the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) launched a public consultation on a bill promoting bio-methane production and organizing its market. According to MEE, this bill establishes the regulatory framework for the production and integration of bio-methane and renewable hydrogen, as well as low-carbon hydrogen into the country’s energy mix, aiming to achieve the goals outlined in the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). The bill introduces a cohesive licensing framework, ensuring transparency and investor confidence while addressing previous legislative and regulatory gaps. It regulates the connection of these units to the Natural Gas System or Distribution Networks, or Geographically Limited Hydrogen Networks, aiming to green gas infrastructures and decarbonize specific industrial zones. Furthermore, it clearly defines the responsibilities of public bodies involved in licensing and supervising hydrogen and bio-methane production facilities. The consultation will last until Monday, June 16, 2025.
