in

Today, May 1st, 2025, Labor Day is celebrated throughout Greece with gatherings in Athens, Thessaloniki, and other major cities. Trade unions, federations, labor centers, and confederations are organizing events to honor the workers’ holiday. All ships will remain docked in ports, while a 24-hour strike by employees in public transportation services is underway. Metro Lines 2 & 3 will operate from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Flights to and from the airport will follow regular schedules. However, stations like Syntagma and University will remain closed as per EL.AS orders. The GSEE and the Athens Labor Center have called for a 24-hour general strike and invite participants to rallies at Klathmonos Square at 11:00 AM. ADEDY has organized a gathering at Korai Square at the same time. PAME’s rally will take place at Syntagma Square at 10:30 AM. Buses and trolleys will run from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM due to work stoppages before and after these hours. Delays and route cancellations are expected because of the 24-hour strike by GSEE. Detailed metro schedules are available, with last departures announced. Line 1 of the metro (ISAP) and the tram will not operate all day due to the strike. Suburban trains and intercity rail services will also be suspended. Employees demand substantial wage increases through collective agreements, reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries, improved working conditions, and better quality of life.
