Matt Gets: The rise and fall of Trump’s near Minister of Justice in 8 days

Only eight days! That’s how Matt Getz’s candidacy lasted, his staunch supporter, for his position. Former Florida MP, Matt Gets, withdrew his candidacy for the U.S. Minister of Justice’s position in the shadow of a series of serious charges facing abuse of public money, bribery, sex with minors and drugs. Trump’s 42-year-old choice of the U.S. Attorney General’s position surprised Washington – not pleasantly – and caused chills in the justice ministry corridors, but According to the BBC Trump chose 42-year-old Gets, during a two-hour flight from Washington to Florida last week. Continuing to enjoy the glow of his election victory, the elected president returned to West Palm Beach last Wednesday afternoon after a hearty meeting with the president, Joe Biden. That morning Gets wasn’t even on the list for the position of America’s top legal official, according to Politico, but Trump had felt exhausted from his other options. On the day of Gets’ choice on Trump’s aircraft was Gets himself, Elon Musk, the first woman to take over the post of head of the White House, Susie Wiles and his leading legal advisor, Boris Epstein, reports the New York Times. Epstein was allegedly beginning to convince Trump that Getz should lead the Justice Ministry. Gets, a lawyer in the profession, has been one of Trump’s toughest defenders in the Capitol. Republicans erupted While Republicans in the Capitol lukewarmly reacted to Getz’s candidacy, lawyers in the Justice Ministry told the American media that they were surprised and outraged by this choice. Speaking at a conservative conference last year, Getz had suggested that the justice department and the agencies he oversees, including the FBI, should be abolished. Today’s Attorney General, Maryk Garland, rejected these allegations. Trump’s former National Security Advisor, John Bolton described Getts’ appointment as the “worst cabinet-level in history”. But the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., said that the rage from Washington’s establishment showed that his father’s unconventional choices in the cabinet were ultimately exactly the kind of changes elected by American voters. Time bomb in Trump’s hands After being designated last week for general prosecutor, Getz resigned as a representative for Florida’s 1st congressional district, a position he holds since 2017. His resignation came as the House Ethics Committee was to decide whether to publish a report from an investigation that had been vindicated against him following complaints of inappropriate behavior involving drugs, bribery, and sex trafficking, including with a minor girl. He rejected these allegations as defamation. However, his resignation was considered a ransom as the ethics committee disagreed on what to do about the report. As the reaction to his candidacy began to increase this week, Trump began communicating with the senators in an attempt to support his choice. Trump seemed to remain firm in his choice, proof that Gets attended the SpaceX missile launch Tuesday along with Musk. Asked by the elected president if he is thinking about Gets, he answered categorically: “No”. Also, on Wednesday the Republicans of the House Ethics Committee voted not to make its investigation against him public. Although at the hearing of these young people Getz said it was “a wonderful day”, there was evidence that nothing was over. The successor was quickly selected Thursday morning, Trump was still calling Republican senators to measure the chances for Getz. But by noon, the candidate had concluded that he would not have the required votes and so suddenly announced that he was retiring. I had excellent meetings with Seniors yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. Wile the momentum was strong, it is clear that my conformation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance… — Matt Gaetz (@mattgaetz) In X (former twitter), 42-year-old said the confrontation around his potential candidacy “became unfairly fragmentary” to undermine the work of the upcoming Trump government. Hours later, Trump proposed former Florida Attorney General Pam Bodie in place of Gets. And maybe this time Getz didn’t make it, but it looks like nothing’s out of the question in the future. Randy Ross from Florida who deals with fundraising told the BBC that America has not heard Gets’ last word. “My opinion is that there is still a place in Trump’s government, Florida, or the future leadership of our country for this patriot,” Ross said. “We all look forward to his next steps”.
