Matt Gets, his former Republican MP and loyal supporter said he would not return to Congress the following year, just one day after retiring his candidacy for their Justice Minister. During an interview today (2.11.2024) he stressed that he would do “what Donald Trump tells him.” Matt Gets made this statement, just a day from his announcement that he withdraws his candidacy for the U.S. Department of Justice, amid accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior and drug use. “I will remain in the race but from another position. I don’t intend to participate in the 119th Congress,” Gets said in an interview he gave conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The MP, whom the elected president intended to appoint as Minister of Justice, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old minor and drug use, but he denies that he has committed anything to do. When Trump announced that he proposed him as Minister of Justice, Gets resigned as MP and said he would not understand the seat he won in the election. The House of Representatives Ethics Committee was investigating allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior but failed to reach an agreement on whether to publicise its findings. After Gets retired, Trump chose Pam Bodi, a former Florida Attorney General and his close ally, for Minister of Justice. Gets praised this choice and insisted that he himself is the victim of a mud campaign in Washington. “I will fight for President Trump. I’ll do whatever he asks me to, as always. But I believe that eight years (s.a. as long as he was a Member of Parliament) is enough for the U.S. Congress,” he said in his interview.
