The New Democracy party suffered a defeat in the elections of the Union of Doctors of Athens and Piraeus Hospitals (EINAP), as indicated by the preliminary results announced late on March 27, 2025. Matina Pagoni, who has served as president of EINAP for the past 12 years, lost her re-election bid. More than 4,500 hospital doctors from Athens and Piraeus participated in the voting. According to the initial results, DEPAK, aligned with the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), secured victory with 1,550 votes. Meanwhile, DEKNY, which is associated with New Democracy and fielded Pagoni as its candidate again, garnered 1,250 votes. In a statement following the election, DEPAK (KKE) described the outcome as a proud response to the “criminal policies” of the government and the “Ministry of Health Trade.” The organization highlighted that just one month after the massive strikes on February 28th, thousands of hospital doctors in Attica expressed their stance against government policies through their vote, elevating DEPAK as the leading force. This hopeful result reflects the efforts of all colleagues, especially the younger generation fighting daily to provide patient care despite the challenges posed by privatization and commercialization policies.
