In the courts of Thessaloniki, 30 out of the total 39 arrested members of an antiquities trafficking ring have appeared following a major police operation in Northern Greece. On June 24, 2025, searches conducted in homes across northern cities uncovered coins, swords, and figurines. According to Karfitsa.gr, 20 of the 39 detainees were presented to the prosecutor and questioned. The remaining 18 will appear before the prosecutor later today, with one expected to arrive at the courthouse tomorrow, Wednesday. Some of those involved have allegedly faced legal action in the past for similar offenses. In March, over 40 investigations dismantled three criminal organizations—one in Thessaloniki and two in Serres. Numerous ancient artifacts, including coins, were seized and will be handed over to relevant archaeological services for evaluation. Additionally, tools used for illegal excavations near designated archaeological sites were discovered, including TNT explosives.
