20th Century Studios has secured the rights for Martin Scorsese’s upcoming untitled mafia thriller set in Hawaii during the 1960s and 70s. The film will star Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Leonardo DiCaprio. The screenplay, based on an idea by Blunt, is written by journalist and author Nick Bilton and is inspired by an upcoming book co-written with Johnson. This new Scorsese project follows the rise of a charismatic mafia leader who builds the strongest crime empire while waging a brutal war against continental companies and rival gangs, all while striving to retain his ancestral land. Based on true events, it tells the story of a man fighting to preserve his homeland amidst an unrelenting quest for absolute power, igniting the last great American mafia tale. Set against the backdrop of paradise, this battle for supremacy unfolds in the most unlikely place. Scorsese, DiCaprio, Johnson, and Blunt will collaborate on production alongside Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, Rick Yorn, and Christopher N. Donnelly as executive producers. Earlier this year, Disney and Seven Bucks Productions, led by Garcia and Johnson, signed a deal for film and streaming platform productions, with Scorsese’s new movie being one of the first examples of this partnership.
