A fire broke out Friday evening, July 24, 2026, in the outdoor area of a recycling facility in Markopoulo, Attica. The Hellenic Fire Service was alerted around 8:30 p.m., and its Operations Center immediately deployed ground forces to the scene.
Response Underway
Thirty-two firefighters and volunteers, supported by 11 vehicles, are currently engaged in suppression efforts. The Markopoulo–Mesogeia municipality is assisting with water tankers. Throughout the operation, the National Emergency Coordination Center (ESKEDIK) is monitoring the situation in real time using drone footage equipped with both visual and thermal imaging.
Investigation Launched
An investigative team specializing in arson cases — part of the Eastern Attica Prosecutor’s Office — has been activated to determine the cause of the fire.
