Marinakis: Small, Ill-intentioned Minority Tried to Turn Peaceful Protest into Chaos

During a press briefing with political editors, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis addressed whether the government intends to close the railway and the role of police during last Friday’s (28/02/25) gatherings marking the somber anniversary of the Tempi tragedy. Marinakis emphasized that it was unfortunate there was no remote control but noted security protocols were still in place. He stated that despite this, new measures are being implemented following protocol breaches during the incident. Regarding the police, Marinakis clarified that they did not act to disperse peaceful protests but responded to dangerous attacks by a small group of disruptive protesters attempting to turn the event into chaos. He highlighted the professionalism and exemplary conduct of the police under challenging circumstances. Additionally, Marinakis discussed human errors outlined in a report, noting the current government is the first to address these issues seriously. On the topic of further investigative committees proposed by the opposition, he criticized their baseless claims and distortion of facts, emphasizing adherence to truth and evidence.
