Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis used strong language against former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, responding to his request for the release of transcripts from meetings held in 2015. ‘No matter how hard Mr. Tsipras tries, he will not rewrite history. It has already been written in black letters, and he was the most tragic protagonist in post-junta Greece,’ said Marinakis.
He referred to events during that period, emphasizing among other things: ‘He marched alongside far-right and drachma supporters. All this happened before the council of political leaders. It was a complete mockery on all levels. The humiliating referendum took place before the council of political leaders convened. He didn’t hold a council and then follow its decisions. He gambled with the country, and after they got slapped in the face, he brought in the political leaders—and fortunately some parties put the nation above partisan conflict.’
Marinakis added: ‘No matter how much rebranding he attempts, history cannot be rewritten.’ He concluded: ‘Tsipras is making an ill-conceived distraction to politically cleanse himself. Not even the remaining 3% who support him believe it anymore.’
