Marinakis on Karoni’s Report on Tempi: ‘The Conspiracy Theory of the Opposition Has Collapsed’

The report from the National Technical University of Athens regarding the cause of the massive explosion following the violent collision in the tragic train accident in Tempi, which resulted in 57 fatalities, was commented on by government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis on SKAI. The comprehensive 123-page expert opinion authored by Professor Dimitris Karoni, based on analyses and data from the State General Chemical Laboratory, autopsies, material collected from the accident site, international scientific data, comparisons, and evaluations, concludes that under the conditions of the disaster, engine oils (silicone oils) could create a fireball as they can ignite at temperatures of 330 degrees Celsius and above. “First, everything will be evaluated by the justice system. Based on what analysts and judicial reporters say, today the expert opinion enters with official documented evidence and scientific data, finally putting an end to the worst attempt at public manipulation I can remember,” stated Pavlos Marinakis. He added, “The narrative built by the opposition, the conspiracy theory of cover-up and illegal material, has collapsed with a bang. Today, the NTUA, Professor Karoni, commissioned by the justice system, answers the question about flammable material and excludes it. Thus, the illegal cargo that formed the basis of the opposition’s narrative, from the far-right to the left, including PASOK, collapses with a bang.” In more personal terms, Marinakis said, “I had the responsibility to defend common sense, and I feel the need to tell all these despicable purveyors of lies from the opposition. All these parties exploited the tragic accident for serious reasons that need thorough investigation by attributing state responsibilities to something that didn’t exist. We faced threats and social media campaigns turned into tele-trials. Society rightly resents the events in Tempi, where we saw the worst face of the Greek state, but in this anger, the opposition went ahead to build the narrative of the cover-up. The supposedly serious PASOK claimed through its president: ‘You heard there was ignition and an explosion from an unknown fuel, and the government misled the Greek people for two years.’
