Just hours after the accident at Marina Vouliagmenis, which occurred on Sunday afternoon (15.06.2026), rescue teams successfully recovered the helicopter from the sea. Fortunately, all five passengers, including the pilot, are in good health. Investigators are currently examining the conditions that led to the incident, with overloading being the leading theory. The helicopter reportedly did not have clearance to land or take off from the Vouliagmenis helipad. Although certified for transporting five people, its age may have compromised its capabilities. Authorities are also exploring the possibility of human error; the pilot allegedly took off into the wind’s direction, destabilizing the aircraft instead of heading against it. The accident happened moments after takeoff when the pilot immediately noticed something was wrong and instructed the four American passengers to jump out before significant altitude was reached. Thankfully, no one suffered serious injuries. The helicopter was scheduled to transport two American couples to Mykonos, starting from Aspropyrgos at 12:30 PM, stopping briefly at Vouliagmenis Marina before continuing its flight path through Patroklos Island, Sounio, Kea, Syros, and finally Santamarina in Mykonos.
