The iconic vocalist spent her final years under care at the Athens Nursing Home, where she passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, 22 July 2026, according to an official announcement from the institution.
A Life of Grace and Dignity
The Athens Nursing Home released a heartfelt statement: “Our great lady of Greek song, Maria Linta, aged 91, has departed this world for the neighborhood of angels. She took her last breath today, 22 July, at 5 a.m., within our facilities.”
Linta had voluntarily moved into the nursing home on 31 October 2018, drawn by her personal appreciation of the high standards of care and safety it offers residents — a decision rooted in her own values and dignity.

The institution emphasized that she passed away calmly and peacefully, with her beloved daughter Evangelia by her side, as well as the full leadership and staff of the Athens Nursing Home — all of whom deeply cherished her.
