Maria Karystianou, leader of the political party Elpida gia tin Dimokratia (Hope for Democracy), made these remarks on the sidelines of a tribute concert in memory of Mimis Plessas, held in the municipality of Thermi.

‘Culture Has Been Missing’

Karystianou said: ‘We’ve missed culture. It’s as if some people are trying to remove it from schools—and from our lives altogether. And after what we went through with COVID-19, culture faces a major challenge.’

A Passion for Theatre

She welcomed initiatives like the Plessas tribute concert and, when asked whether she prefers theatre or cinema, replied: ‘Theatre—though I deeply love classic, old-school cinema. Theatre has a unique magic.’

Culture in Education

Karystianou emphasized that her party’s programme includes bringing culture into schools—through theatre performances and live concerts. She concluded with warm wishes for those involved: ‘I truly hope all your efforts reach their intended goal—and make everything much easier.’
