In an effort to seek accountability, Maria Karystianou, president of the victims’ families association of the Tempi train disaster, unveiled her proposal for a ‘preliminary investigation’ on Wednesday afternoon (04.06.2025). Through this document, Karystianou demands the establishment of a preliminary committee to investigate a series of alleged wrongdoings, including what she terms as the ‘ultimate betrayal,’ implicating former Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and others involved in managing the aftermath of the tragedy. The proposal, addressed to all Members of Parliament, seeks support irrespective of political affiliation, emphasizing the restoration of justice and social peace. Notably, it does not reference the controversial ‘illegal load’ theory supported by some technical advisors to the victims’ families. In a Facebook post, Stefanos Kasselakis, who supports the initiative, urged MPs to sign both the SYRIZA proposal and Karystianou’s, aiming to bring the matter to parliamentary discussion.
